Republican Candidate Newt Gingrich believes the country should eliminate child labor laws so that 9 yr old school kids from poor families can take the places of school janitors. He believes poor kids would make much better janitors saying they could be hired for much less pay.

I think the most offensive thing of all about this is that he is targeting poor children so all the well off children can laugh when the poor kid has to go clean the bathroom like some kind? of punishment for being poor.

I'm pretty sure that 'ole Newt, in his twisted way is mostly trying to attack the janitors' union. He made it pretty clear that kids would be much cheaper to hire than adult union janitors. Trust me, he doesn't have the best intentions. What he REALLY cares about is making more money not only for himself, but his super rich greedy buddies . . . but it's? excellent that he is no longer being taken seriously as a candidate in this election.

If individual kids, with the apropropriate parental supervision, want to sell lemon aid, or rake leaves, or? wash cars, well that is one thing. To fire a unionized workers and replace them with child workers, that is quite another is it not? Which of the two is Newt proposing as a matter of American public policy? Shouldn't kids be allowed to be kids? They already have school, homework, chores at home and you believe their childhood years should be sacrificed so they can be taken advantage of by some greedy adults? You still don't understand why so many working poor are poor. It's because the system isn't functioning properly. The people at the very top are trying to keep too much of the money for themselves? while the working poor have to struggle because of it.

Hell, Newt doesn't even consider Our Own Labor, OUR investment into the cumulative wealth of America, to be a commodity we can sell, collectively, at a price WE demand. That privilege is reserved for the rich, in his? Capitalist Fantasy. Or that Our labor, sold at a loss, still doesn't entitle us or our children to "free" services such as education or health care or equal representation either by Congress, the Presidency or the Courts. We didn't have the car that Newt and Ron Paul and Ron Reagan and all their chickenhawk buddies snivelled about, that we were "spending our money on gas, video games, partying and concert tickets". As for working in the house, people have to do that? to maintain their OWN Property. I don't believe for an instant that either Newt or Reggie1971 think of the Public Schools actually being the property of the children or their families. Newt's prior record shows that he doesn't.

Teaching kids the value of work? should involve teaching them that their work is actually worth a lot more than the Debt-Slavery wages Newt proposes. When he was licking Reagan's boots he and Ron Paul tried to put in a "youth opportunity wage" that was lower than the $3.35 hr Minimum because people under 25 didn't have their own homes, their own expenses... I was 22 and married, struggling at a job that paid slightly over Minimum. Falling into debt even.

What would be wrong with kids being? taught that our labor is worth at least the cost to us to produce it? That Workers have the right to collectively negotiate as much and, indeed, more so than the Corporations who are the only ones Gingrich represents in the first damn place? Gingrich pretends to Christianity, does he not recall "A workman is worthy of his hire"? Our hire should at the very least be enough to cover our expenses in producing it. Why aren't kids taught THAT in Newt's dreamworld?

What is wrong with someone 12 or 13 being able? to earn cash doing janitorial work? Is that some form of abuse? Kids rake the yard, wash the dishes, and do other chores for their parents and that is thought to be entirely proper.
